Taller sobre reconocimiento e identificación faciales, con Mentah

Un taller sobre la diferencia entre identificación y reconocimiento facial, el funcionamiento de los sistemas de inteligencia artificial en los que se basan y un laboratorio de maquillaje como herramienta de resistencia a los sesgos de estas tecnologías.


¿Cómo percibe la tecnología nuestros rostros? Este taller propone estrategias para entender cómo funcionan los sistemas de reconocimiento facial, los sesgos sexistas y racistas que incorporan y los mecanismos de control que generan. A partir de la diferencia entre reconocimiento e identificación, planteará cómo funciona la inteligencia artificial, en qué datos se basa y cómo se aplica en los distintos continentes. El taller plantea también un laboratorio de maquillaje en el que, en vez de mirarnos al espejo, nos miraremos a la cámara y al sistema de reconocimiento facial. Nos acercaremos, así, a la percepción que tiene de nuestros rostros una tecnología entrenada para realizar un seguimiento de cada característica facial y recoger información sobre nuestro estado de ánimo, género, etnia, edad o ubicación. El taller propone pensar el maquillaje como herramienta de resistencia para eludir esa relación de poder y control, generando nuevos rostros.

How does technology perceive our faces? This workshop proposes strategies to understand how facial recognition systems work, the sexist and racist biases they incorporate and the control mechanisms they generate. Based on the difference between recognition and identification, he will discuss how artificial intelligence works, what data it is based on and how it is applied on different continents. The workshop also proposes a make-up laboratory in which, instead of looking at ourselves in the mirror, we will look at the camera and the facial recognition system. Thus, we will get closer to the perception that a technology has of our faces that is trained to monitor each facial feature and collect information about our state of mind, gender, ethnicity, age or location. The workshop proposes to think of makeup as a resistance tool to avoid that relationship of power and control, generating new faces.
