Mentah (Juan Gallo)
Mentah es un performer, cineasta y narradorx uruguayx. Nacidx en 1995, obsesionadx con lo self produced y homemade. Ahora reside en Barcelona y Montevideo.
Pasó de ser un niñx dibujante a un adolecente cinefilx, para
florecer en un joven militante de contar historias en cualquiera
sea la plataforma. El storytelling es, sin lugar a dudas, su espacio de comodidad. Si bien se formó como guionista y directorx,
los primeros años fuera de la academia fueron invertidos en la
performance (drag/happening) y nunca habiendo soltado el
dibujo.
Su trabajo oscila entre la creación de nuevas identidades y su eventual destrucción, apuntando a reconfigurar nuestro pensamiento estético, a repensar el maquillaje como arma, para resistir dentro de la tecnología y no contra ella. Mentah teje su discurso en textos y luego se comparten en sus intervenciones artísticas en cualquier contexto geográfico. Mezclar las dos disciplinas es fundamental para su trabajo, posibilitando un proceso de pensamiento que puede existir tanto en un taller como en nuevos sistemas académicos.
Mentah is a Uruguayan performer, filmmaker and narrator. They went from being a cartoonist child to a cinemafilmx teenager, to blossom into a young militant storyteller in any be the platform. Storytelling is, without a doubt, their comfort zone. Although they trained as a screenwriter and director, the first few years out of academia were spent in the performance (drag/happening) and never having let go of drawing.
Their work oscillates between the creation of new identities and their eventual destruction, aiming to reconfigure our aesthetic thinking, to rethinking make-up as a weapon, to resist inside technology and not against it. Mentah knits their discourse in texts that are first and foremost published in Uruguay, and then shared in their artistic interventions in any geographical context. Mixing the two disciplines is fundamental to their work, enabling a thinking process that could exists in a workshop as much as in new academic systems.
